In honour of Armed Forces Week and Reserves Day, it’s important to recognise the efforts and dedication of our team members who also give up some of their time to support our armed forces within a reservist’s capacity.
At Inzpire, we encourage our individuals to become reservists if they wish to continue their service (or start their service, if they are new to the military) and therefore offer an additional 15 days paid leave to enable them to do this alongside their role.
Wing Commander Mark Doney has been a reservist with 616 Squadron Royal Auxillary Air Force based at RAF Waddington, since leaving the regulars and joining Inzpire in 2017. His role is as a Command & Control (C2), Intelligence Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR) and Space Subject Matter Expert.
Mark said: “Most of my reserve time is spent supporting the Operational Training Centre at RAF Leeming. I am responsible for training the command teams within the RAF’s Expeditionary Air Wing HQs as part of their pre-deployment training prior to deploying in support of NATO operations. This also helps to prepare them for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations in the Caribbean; unfortunately, the latter is not on-location training! I am also a qualified NATO tactical evaluator, responsible for evaluating C2 elements across all NATO countries.
“I love that my role as a reservist enables me to continue to serve, and to use the knowledge and experience I’ve gained over 30 years to educate and train new generations of RAF personnel. Throughout this, I am being supported by an employer who values that continued connection with the UK military.”
Philip Johnston-Davis is a Senior Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Expert at Inzpire. He is involved in the design and delivery of a broad range of training activities and providing domain knowledge consultancy support to clients working on larger contracts with the UK Ministry of Defence and other customers.
He said: “As an RAF part-time volunteer reservist, I command one of the RAF’s three reserve intelligence squadrons headquartered at RAF Waddington. It’s a balance between leadership duties, keeping myself current with changes in military thinking and tactics, and supporting projects within ISR planning and operations that are appropriate to the amount of time I can commit, while still having time for family and sport!
“I’m able to be a reservist because Inzpire is a Gold Award holder in the MOD’s Employee Recognition Scheme and allows team members to take additional paid reservist leave. It’s just one of the ways the company demonstrates its commitment to current reservists, the veteran community, and their families.”
Andy Winterbon is our long-standing Maritime Subject Matter Expert within the Air and Space Division, having joined Inzpire in 2020. Throughout that time, he has balanced his Inzpire work and a national management role for the General Warfare Branch of the Maritime Reserve, managing capability support to Commander Strike Force (CSF) and Commander UK Strike Group as the manager of the CSF Cadre.
Andy said: “The company allocation of time to help deliver my reserve role is key to allow me to maintain my Royal Navy warfare currency, which also supports my activity within Inzpire. The support role to CSF is a growing one, as the carriers and staffs develop their roles globally. I’ll continue to provide support to it where I can, along with the CSF cadre.”
Thank you to all of our reservists for everything you do, both for us at Inzpire and for our armed forces. You’re an inspiration to us all!
